I try to keep things positive around here. But sometimes a girl's gotta rant! (I mean, I guess that's what boyfriends and best friends are for, but I know you want to know what I'm ranting about ;))
1. When WKU decides it is okay to change all student e-mails. How stupid. Now I have to tell all my contacts that I have a new e-mail. Bluck.
2. Being woken up at 6:00 am only to be informed via text message that my school has not closed for snow is not cool. Especially when it was my school that sent the text.
3. I hate the fact that I am using a cell phone from a million years ago because new cell phones are so incompetent.
4. I hate it when teachers say they do not necessarily agree with Evolution and promise to just "talk about that when we get there" then bring it up the next class period. We are not there yet.
5. Teachers who assign five quizzes a night and 3o book reports for the entire semester. When has that ever, ever been okay?
6. To all people who cuss: CUSSING DOES NOT MAKE YOU COOL AND IT NEVER WILL. Thank you for your time and attention.
7. Oh here's one to think about: the fact that the channel "Nickalodeon" has no shows with real families. The kids have no parental figures and kids who watch the shows are taught to be rebellious.
8. People smoking while they walk in front of me to class. If you want to smell like that, okay, but I do not want to.

Back to Class. Whoop Whoop!
Stand up and cheer! Stand up and cheer for dear old Western!!! (and really easy Biology classes!)
That's right! I'm back on the hill this week, and today was the first day of classes. This semester I'm taking an eighteen hour class load, working as PASS leader, and youth pastoring at First Apostolic. It's gonna be so much fun! And so much work... but it's all good :)
So, great story about my first day:
In case you didn't know, I hate science. I take that back, I hate Biology (I took a summer geology course, and like some kind of nerd I loved it). I tried to take Biology my first semester as a freshman here at WKU, but my teacher was from India and that combined with my lack of skills caused me to drop the class. So here I am, second semester sophomore, going at it again, and the Lord has blessed me already! I tell ya, there's nothing like His favor!
So I walked into class today and suddenly felt as though I had walked into the twilight zone. The wrong professor was in my classroom! I checked my schedule three or four times, looked at the door number, I was in the right classroom, but professor Bowker was not standing in front of me. Instead, this lady, Professor Cantrell was standing there. She said class would be short today so I decided to stick it out and see what was going on. She proceeded to tell the class that we could go ahead and sell our books back because we would not need them (which was good, because if you could see how much books cost for an 18-hour class load, you would die). She also let us know that our grades would consist of two, multiple-choice test and one article review (easy shmeasy) and if we do any work for volunteering we could get up to 20 points extra credit ( I live to volunteer! :) ). So, I'm thinking, "this class is too good to be true." But it wasn't. As soon as I got out of class I went to the computer lab and checked my schedule: MWF Bio 113, Professor Cantrell. I'm not crazy, I promise, because the schedule I printed a few weeks ago said Professor Bowker, I just know God changed that for me.
Probably because He knew my Spanish teacher refuses to talk to me in anything but Spanish. How much Spanish do I know? Zip. Nada. Zero.

May Your Power Rest on Me: Sojourn Music
Let me hear my Savior say “Your strength shall return.”
Then I’ll rejoice in my weakness As I lean on your grace.
May your power rest on me.
You are strong when I am weak.
I can bear all things when temptation springs
For you sustain me all my days.
Let me know my Savior’s face. Let my hope be secure.
Then I’ll rejoice in my weakness. As I lean on your grace.
Once from the Lord withdrawn, I thought that I could live my life alone
Leaving the solid ground, I sank beneath his wisdom
The harder I tried to climb, The closer I was to find
How great is my weakness

Day Four with the Links: Sweet Sixteen
The two wonderful people you know as Mike and Gwen Link are proud parents of four teenage daughters. As of yesterday, three of them age 16 and up. Wow. They are two really special people, especially, with my sisters and I being the four teenage daughters.Day Four with the Links: Sweet Sixteen isn't really a day; it's a weekend. We don't really have big, blow-out parties around here, we just do our own style of partying for days on end. So this is how we celebrated Christina's 16th birthday all weekend long: (we did not go to Rivergate and eat out and go to the movies)
- We sat on the couch and watched Smallville
- I made some killer chicken penne pasta
- My Dad's truck broke down
- We sang at a benefit singing for my cousin's family
- We went to Pizza Hut at 8:30 at night with the cousins and Justin
- We harmonized a beautiful rendition of Happy Birthday in Pizza Hut
- We gave her gifts including Fantasia, a calendar, mandolin tuning pegs, and a shirt
- We went to church
- We had a joint birthday party for her and my uncle Greg (who is not 48) at my grandparents house
- We watched more Smallville
- My sister Rebekah passed along the "16" key chain and necklace (which has now gone through six cousins)
- We went to Pizza Hut again
- We baked and cake and had it for dinner (nothing else.. besides ice cream of course)
- We watched more Smallville
Yeah.... the Smallville thing is getting a bit ridiculous, but honestly, it's okay. She had a really great birthday! Maybe some of this stuff doesn't sound like fun or like a really great way to spend your birthday, but I guess you had to be there. I mean, it's hard for me to include all the laughs, weird dances, and high pitched voices in my numerical list.

Meet Dolly
Dolly is a survivor. We found her on the streets and rescued her from a sad, sad, life. Well, kinda. So, my sisters and I were shopping for my parents' Christmas presents and we had to run by the Dollar Store. Christina and Rebekah ran in and Jessica and I waited in the car. While we were waiting we spotted the cutest little stray kitty! When Christina and Rebekah came out, Christina saw it too. She thought it was so cute she thought it would be okay if she called out to it and put it in our van. We were officially in love. The whole way home Christina cradled the kitty saying, "I love you kitty! I love you so so much!" told them there was no way we could take it home and that we would just drop it in a field close by, at least that would be better than a parking lot.
When we got home Christina called my dad outside and showed him the kitty. "Merry Christmas," she said, "we named her Dolly."
My dad rolled his eyes and told us to just wait until our mom got home. She wasn't the happiest camper I'd ever seen. Butttt here it is, 13 days into the New Year and Dolly is sitting on the couch, happy as a hyena (I'm not sure that was the greatest simile).

Day Three with The Links
My sisters have been out of school for snow for three days. This is exactly (and I mean every single detail) what has happened every day this week:
- We wake up at precisely 8:00 a.m.
- We watch The Early Show on NBC until around 10:00 and then other television programs until 11:00 a.m.
- We eat lunch. Since we have been trapped in by snow, we have eaten vegetable soup and homemade french fries for every meal since Sunday (so much for my new years resolution).
- We lay on the couch, napping, until my dad gets home around 3:30
- At 4:00 p.m. we start dinner
- We then eat our dinner in the living room where we watch episodes of Smallville until bedtime.

Day Two with The Links
Okay, so the plan was to only do this thing once a week, but it is too fun and way too much stuff happens around here not to blog!
You will find in all my blogging about my family that things are, most of the time, a little more than crazy, but you will also find that everything is for the glory of the Lord. So this is what happened (I was not there, so this story is as told to me by my mom): Last night my family of six was in five different places, which explains why I was not present, though I wish I had been. My mom and Christina were getting groceries, Jessica was at school for academic team practice, Rebekah was at Grandmama's working on a t-shirt quilt, my dad was at home watching Star Trek, and I was out with Justin. I know.... whoa.
Well, on the way home from Walmart my mom says to Christina, "You know Christina, in this economy, things would be much easier if your dad made more money. I wish he could get another job." (Okay, so not those words exactly, but you know, I'm improvising). Little did my mom know that while my dad was sitting at home on the couch watching "Star Trek: The Final Frontier" he received a phone call from a local tool and die shop...
This is how it went down when my mom got home:
As soon as my mom walked through the door, Dad told her he had great news: He was offered another job at the tool and die shop!!! Not only that, but he will be able to keep his job he has now and work at the other place in the afternoon, and they are paying him by his own quote... that's stinking awesome! So what does my mom do? She starts dancing! Right in the middle of the kitchen (must be where we get it from haha).
God is soooo good to us. He heard my mom on the way home from Walmart, but that was not what got my dad the second job, God knew in advance what we would need and He prepared this job for my dad. We are so blessed! And just crazy enough about Jesus to dance about it :)

Day One With the Links
I woke up this morning to my mama shouting "YOU HAVE NINE MINUTES UNTIL WE HAVE TO LEAVE!!!!" She wasn't talking to me. My sister Rebekah and I are students at WKU; so we still have about three weeks of Winter Break. She was talking to my youngest sister Jessica, who sets her alarm on her phone for 5:45 a.m. on school days and doesn't wake up until 6:45. So we begin our day.
Well, my mama and Christina and Jessica begin their day. My dad had already woken up around 4:00 a.m. and went to work. I slept until 10:00 hahahaha. Nah, I usually don't sleep that late, honestly. When school is in session I wake up at 7:00 a.m. like clockwork. Today though, I slept in. It's a good thing I did too! I washed seven loads of laundry and folded them all. Laundry in our house never, ever ends. With six people, who would expect anything less?
Before I knew it, the time was 5:00 p.m. and the family was home, sitting at the table together for dinner. Rebekah made spaghetti; it was delicious.
Now onto what makes this day special. It starts happening when the weather starts getting cold and the sun starts going down earlier... watching television. My family doesn't watch t.v. in the summer, and especially not in the fall when marching band season is going on. But when Winter comes around, we love to watch television, especially on Tuesdays. Tuesday is Biggest Loser day. Something about fat people getting skinny really pulls at a our heart strings :)
We also love Smallville. Now, we don't keep up with the current season. We started in around season four and watched through five and six, then we got lost again. So, my sister's boyfriend JJ bought us all seven seasons for Christmas this year. We just watch an episode a night.... that's a lie. We watch at least two. Sometimes, though, we get a little carried away....

A Day in the Life: Featuring the Link Family
I am starting a new series!!! I got so much good feedback on the Christmas traditions blogs that I have decided to do something similar in the new year. Each week I am going to do a "day in the life" portrait of my family: The Links! Trust me, if you keep up and read my entries you will find out lots of interesting things about us... and you will certainly find that no two days are the same.
Things tend to get crazy.
Okay, so meet the Link family:
This is mom and dad. They are so in loveeeeee.
This is me and my sisters. I am the oldest (19) Then Rebekah, the tall one (18). Then Christina (16), she is the musician (well we're all musicians, but you'll see) and finally Jessica, the youngest (14).
There are definitely several things you need to know about us... but you will find them out through reading this blog. It would take me too long right now. So keep up!

2011
Three words: New. Years. Resolution(s).
Ohhhh my. Yep, I absolutely made a few, we'll see how this goes.
1.) No more french fries.
2.) Stop worrying about the future (Matthew 6:34)
3.) Love people more. Friends. Family. Strangers.

About Amanda
I have tried to blog about Amanda several times and it just never comes out right. Maybe I'm just not ready yet; I do not know. Maybe death is something that should not be blogged about. Once again, I do not know. But I do know this: It is important to me that you, my reader, whoever you are, know about Amanda.
Amanda was my third cousin on my mom's side. She was eighteen years old and absolutely beautiful in every way. I wasn't very close to her, and that I regret. We should have been close, we had every right to be, but for some reason, we weren't. My best memories of her include VBS and Camp Mulberry when we were really young. The majority of my memories of her are from church: worship services, lock-ins and great sermons. My latest memories of her are mostly from checking out books when she worked at the library and facebook.
Here are a few more things I know about her: she had the most beautiful, silky, hair in the whole world, seriously. She had a sweet spirit. In every picture I have seen of her in the past few years she was smiling from ear to ear. She loved Elvis and she loved people. There were over 900 people at her visitation, many of them just people she had waited on at the restaurant or met at the library. She lived a life that exemplified Christ. Her very being was a witness of his power. She loved Jesus with all of her heart and the world could see it.
That is the greatest reassurance, that she is in the care of Jesus at this very moment. And all the things I never got to know about Amanda here, I will get to know someday when we both worship God side by side. What a glorious day.
