Oh and God blessed us so much! Our theme for this year was under the sea and each night we had a lesson and crafts and snacks and music. We were visited by Tina Bell the clown, two pirates, a fisherman, and a scuba diver! It was so awesome! I was privileged to be chosen to teach the lesson each night, which was a wonderful opportunity. I got to teach the kids about being baptized, repenting, how to fight the devil, being fishers of men, and finally about being filled with the Spirit of God.
The greatest moment all week came on the night that I taught the children about being filled with the Spirit. It was Thursday night and most of the kids who were there had been there all week. One of the kids was Hunter, the only little boy who came to VBS. He actually lives next door to my grandparents, we call him Dennis the Menace haha. He is a great kid but a little bit of a rascal. I had a hard time getting him to pay attention during the lesson sometimes and on one of the activities they had for the kids he had written that he had forgotten everything he had learned that week.... not exactly something that makes a teacher feel too great ya know?
Well, when I finished up the lesson about being filled with the Spirit, I asked the kids to raise their hand if they wanted to be filled with the Spirit. Hunter's little hand was the first to shoot up! It is an image that will forever be engrained in my mind. His little face was just so eager and honest, I knew that he knew what he was asking for.
Even better, Sunday morning, Hunter showed up on my grandparent's doorstep asking if he could come to church with them... annnnnd Sunday night he came back and brought his older sister! Now if that isn't success I don't know what is! I can't wait until next year!!!
What did you teach them about how to fight the devil?
ReplyDeleteAnonymously Me,
ReplyDeleteThis was actually one of my favorite nights! Since the theme was "Under the Sea" I showed the kids several slides of "scary" sea creatures. We talked about how frightening they were, and then I told the kids that we don't have to face those kinds of creatures everyday, but that we do have an enemy: the devil. I then referred to the Bible verse that says "The devil is like a lion, seeking whom he may devour." We talked about what that verse could mean, and then I directed them to James 4:7. This verse says "Submit to God, resist the Devil, and he will flee from you." How awesome is that? If we submit ourselves to God, and are completely filled with Him, then all we have to do is resist the Devil's temptation and he will flee from us!
